As an employer you may have heard that there will be no change to the rights and status of EU citizens living in the UK until 2021.
The EU Settlement Scheme, for which EU Citizens can apply to achieve settlement status for after that date will be phased in and will be fully open for applications by the end of March 2019.
This is a scheme for which individuals are responsible for applying, rather than the employer. Employers are not expected to pay for or support the cost of the EU Settlement Scheme application for their EU citizen employees.
However, the Government has published an employer toolkit to help guide employers through the new EU settlement scheme.
The toolkit includes a briefing pack for communicating key facts to employees, a leaflet with important info for EU citizens in the UK, a leaflet with steps to apply for settled status, the benefits of applying and steps to apply.
A link to the Government employer toolkit can be found here.
